swishium

What's left to be said about Bissell Brothers' Swish? The legendary Maine Double IPA has garnered the love and attention of beer fans for years. Many will remember queuing up on wintry Saturday morning release days on Industrial Way in Portland, bundling up and patiently awaiting their first sip of the Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hop bomb. The beer is brewed on a larger system at Thompson's Point these days and it's only gotten better, solidifying its place at the pinnacle of the style. When Pete and Noah gave us the green light to brew our take on their iconic recipe, we couldn't have been more excited.

Aiming to stay true to Bissell's recipe, we used a hefty amount of Golden Promise malt, which resulted in a fluffy, hazy golden yellow, practically begging us to dive in for the first sip. Swishium wastes no time in making its presence known, serving up the perfect balance of tropical and citrus aromas. Waves of fruit crash across the palate, from pulpy orange juice and mango nectar to candied grapefruit and ripe summer melon. A soft mouthfeel and light-to-moderate, piney bitter finish reminiscent of the original rounds out each sip with a refreshing finish.
