Oenobier: Chardonnay

As we push further in our development of beer/wine hybrids, the Oenobier series focuses on different varieties of wine grapes while drawing inspiration from the body and drinking experience of classic wines and champagnes. This series is informed by our past work with beers like Stroka, Bug Valley, Terroir Project: Rkatsiteli and Oenobier's first iteration, which was created with our friends from Monkish.

Despite its origins in the Burgundy Region of France, Chardonnay grapes are found in nearly every wine making region of the world thanks in part to their unique ability to adapt and embrace their given terroir. Examples from colder climates display a lean palate with sharper acidity and notes of pear, green apple, kiwi with a stoney minerality; whereas warmer climates allow the grapes to fully ripen and display bold juicy notes of passion fruit, mango, guava, and citrus peel.

Oenobier: Chardonnay displays a unique bouquet of aromas as overtones of white grape and delicate tropical fruits are balanced by the distinctive barnyard funk and woody accents typical of a French wine. Tangy citrus flavors of lemon and lime wash over the palate as notes of bosc pear, dried mango slices and subtle pie crust provide depth. Pale straw in color with an energetic carbonation, Oenobier: Chardonnay is slightly sour and gently sweet with a light body and crisp, intensely effervescent finish.
