Freaky Friday is a concept created by our friends at Other Half and The Veil because, "The world is weird right now, so we thought we'd roll with it." While in-person collaborations are not an option at this time, joining the party on recipe swapping is a creative alternative.
Our second round of Freaky Friday has us swapping Citra-focused hoppy recipes with Other Half and we were the lucky recipients of HDHC All Citra Everything. What is HDHC? In the words of the crew at OH, "We wanted to explore unnecessarily large hop additions using our new experimental Citra hop product, Citra Cryo and regular Citra pellets. HDHC is an acronym to denote this combo and it stands for High-Density Hop Charge due to the extra high hopping rate. We are going for the biggest baddest aromatics we can and it represents around 15 lbs/bbl but with our combo of hop products it's as smooth as ever."
Building on the HDHC concept, we utilized three Citra products in our interpretation of the recipe: Citra Incognito, regular Citra pellets, and Citra Cryo. HDHC All Citra Everything pours a heavily hazy canary yellow color. Super-saturated citrus hop oil aromas crash over the palate. Fresh-squeezed Valencia orange juice, candied grapefruit peel, and pomelo morph into a mouth-coating pineapple puree finish. Aggressive in its hop profile, yet retaining a fluffy and soft mouthfeel, HDHC All Citra Everything is a beautiful ode to one of our favorite hop varietals.
