The brainchild of Marcus Baskerville, Founder and Head Brewer of Weathered Souls Brewing Company in San Antonio, Texas, Black is Beautiful now includes over 1000 breweries across the globe each utilizing the same recipe and common brand to establish a global, unified voice. Each member brewery pledges to donate proceeds from the sales of the beer to a local non-profit organization that supports equality and inclusion, police reform, and/or legal defense funds for those that have been wronged.
We were humbled to have Ray Berry Jr., founder of Springfield's White Lion Brewing reach out to us and offer to collaborate on our versions of this incredible beer. 100% of the proceeds donated from White Lion's version will be donated to the Healing Racism Institute of Pioneer Valley, while the entirety of the proceeds of the Trillium version will be donated to Lawyers for Civil Rights, Boston (LCR). Founded in the wake of the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy, LCR fights discrimination on behalf of people of color and immigrants through legal action, education, and advocacy utilizing a vast network of pro-bono lawyers.
For our version of Black is Beautiful, we brewed the shared recipe from Weathered Souls (80% component of final beer) and blended it with two currently unreleased bourbon and rum barrel-aged beers (20%). The resulting Imperial Stout pours jet black with a mocha-tinged head. The aroma is incredibly complex, offering invited notes of baked goods ranging from cacao chunk brownies to brown sugar glazed hazelnut cookies. Luscious and full-bodied, with a mild sweetness offset by a touch of oaky tannins, we are excited to share Black is Beautiful with you.
