Making Strides to Conquer Cancer

With your help and participation, we see our mission of giving back to communities through events, fundraising, and amplifying voices grow stronger every year. At the center of these annual philanthropic efforts are a diverse array of initiatives supported by a number of incredibly impactful, nonprofit organizations like Family Reach.

Family Reach was founded in 1996 by the Colangelo and Morello families whose children were undergoing treatment for cancer. They quickly recognized that treatment was only the first hurdle on the road ahead, and that financial hardship and disparity create a different experience in each family for those both in and outside of treatment.

Starting as a regional family foundation based in New Jersey, Family Reach has grown to a national nonprofit dedicated to removing the financial barriers standing between cancer patients and their treatment; these challenges include loss of income, increased out-of-pocket expenses, and socioeconomic factors. When faced with these barriers, families have to make impossible decisions such as choosing between paying for treatment or putting healthy food on the table.

Family Reach works directly with oncology social workers at over 500 top-tier hospitals and cancer centers nationwide to provide thousands of families in cancer treatment with critical navigation, planning, education, and emergency relief. Since 2003, they’ve helped more than 200,000 individuals from 50 states keep a roof over their head, feed their families, and maintain reliable access to treatment.

Here at Trillium we support Family Reach in a variety of ways including our yearly Spring 5K and Fall Flip events. Additionally, Esther Tetreault, our founder, sits on the National Advisory Board, helping to guide strategy.

We look forward to joining runners all over the world on Sunday, May 15th for our most exciting Spring 5K to date in support of this amazing organization.
